Timeline:
July 10, 2016.
Rich, 27, was shot to death in the Bloomingdale neighborhood of Washington, DC. 'He was shot several times including at least once in the back just after 4 am. Police said at the time of the murder they believed Rich was murdered after resisting an attempted robbery. ...The fact that the valuables Rich was carrying were not taken in the attempted robbery are seen as the key to the conspiracy, although it could also be because the robbery was botched.'
July 22, 2016:
WikiLeaks releases more than 19,000 DNC emails obtained via a [*]hack. A few of the emails paint DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz as dismissive of Bernie Sanders' presidential campaign, confirming what many Sanders' supporters had long believed. (Wasserman Schultz is later forced to resign.)
(Artist's note: *It is disputed whether the DNC was hacked or the emails were acquired via a leak. Many suspect Seth Rich was the DNC leaker).

"All signs point to leaking, not hacking. If hacking were involved, the National Security Agency would know it – and know both sender and recipient. In short, since leaking requires physically removing data – on a thumb drive, for example – the only way such data can be copied and removed, with no electronic trace of what has left the server, is via a physical storage device."

US Intel Vets Dispute Russia Hacking Claims, December 12, 2016
Caitlin Johnstone:
..."WikiLeaks operative and former UK ambassador Craig Murray told Dailymail.com a few days ago that U.S. intelligence is once again lying to the American people about the Russian origins of the leaks, stating that both the DNC leaks and the Podesta files instead came from Americans working inside the DNC who did not obtain them by hacking since they had legal access to them. He stated that the leakers were motivated by “disgust at the corruption of the Clinton Foundation and the tilting of the primary election playing field against Bernie Sanders.” Murray (who has actually been saying this since his meeting with Julian Assange in October) has not named the leakers, but Rich was a Data Director at the DNC, and died under highly suspicious circumstances the same month the DNC leaks were released."

Seymour Hersh:
Statement (later retracted) from audio recording used in Rod Wheeler lawsuit against Fox News and Ed Butowsky, filed 08/01/17
"55. During his conversation with Butowsky, Mr. Hersh claimed that he had received information from an “FBI report.” Mr. Hersh had not seen the report himself, but explained: “I have somebody on the inside who will go and read a file for me. And I know this person is unbelievably accurate and careful. He’s a very high level guy.”
56. According to Mr. Hersh, his source told him that the FBI report states that, shortly after Seth Rich’s murder, the D.C. police obtained a warrant to search his home. When they arrived at the home, the D.C. police found Seth Rich’s computer, but were unable to access it. The computer was then provided to the D.C. police Cyber Unit, who also were unable to access the computer. At that point, the D.C. police contacted the Cyber Unit at the FBI’s Washington D.C. field office. Again, according to the supposed FBI report, the Washington D.C. field office was able to get into the computer and found that in “late spring early summer [2016], [Seth Rich][made] contact with Wikileaks.” “They found what he had done. He had submitted a series of documents, of emails. Some juicy emails from the DNC.” Mr. Hersh told Butowsky that Seth Rich “offered a sample [to WikiLeaks][,] an extensive sample, you know I’m sure dozens, of emails, and said I want money.”"
